How I Clean My Brushes

Hi Girlies! I have been meaning to do this post for a while and I hope you find it useful. I try and do this on a weekly basis, usually on a Sunday night. During the week I use my ELF daily brush cleaner for spot cleaning eye shadow or eyeliner brushes. Its really important to clean make up brushes regularly because make up looks better when applied with a clean brush, using dirty brushes can give you spots and cleaning them extends the life expectancy of the brushes.

First of all I get all my brushes together, grab some Johnson's Baby Shampoo and head to the sink. 

I have found that this is best for cleaning my brushes without leaving any deposits or strong scents. If my brushes are getting a bit rough and scratchy, I spray a teeny tiny spritz of leave in conditioner after I rinse them clean.

I rinse the brushes with warm water and then apply the shampoo. If I have a brush that is really gross I may wash it with olive oil too. Brushes that I have used for thick products like lipstick or gel eyeliner often need more of a deep clean. I just put some olive oil on a tissue and rub the brush in circular motions until the vast majority of the product is off. I then just wash the brushes the same way as I would the others. 

After I have put baby shampoo on the brush I lather it up by rubbing the brush in circular motions on my palm. I then rinse and repeat. I then rinse it thoroughly.

I reshape the brushes with my fingers so that they are not all weird and misshapen and then place them on some kitchen towel with the brush business end hanging off an edge. Its important to leave them like this so that they can be aired from all sides as they dry. This stops them smelling funky and getting mouldy. I also give my tweezers and the rubber insert in my eyelash curlers a rinse under very hot water to kill bacteria.
