Review: Gillette Venus & Olay Razor

This is another post I cleverly forgot to write at the beginning of summer- better late than never!
I bought these when they were buy-one-get-theother-free in Boots back in June. The benefit of my forgetfulness is that I can now give a thorough review, having used these properly.

It's pretty snazzy, and I'm a sucker for sparkley packaging. The jelly-type bars either side of the blades are supposed to moisturise and negate the need for shaving mousse.

Here's what Gillette had to say about the Razor:

  • 5 razor blades get Venus close
  • Olay Moisture Bars release skin conditioners to help lock in skin’s moisture for less dryness*
  • No need for separate shave cream
  • VanillaCrème scent
  • SoftGrip® handle for confident control
  • Shower Hook for convenient, in-shower storage

I think the main thing, is whether or not it's better than what I was using before. It is, but then when I factor in the cost difference, they don't seem as appealing. I'd rather spend closer to £5 than £9, especially when the ones I was using did the trick.
I was using the standard Venus Angel blades beforehand (the cheapest in Boots) and with a little bit of mousse- or conditioner if i didn't have any- worked just fine. I don't think the shave was any less 'close' and, quite frankly, the hair is going to grow back at its own rate anyway. Sadly, i'm not one of those people who can get away with a fortnightly shave.

Normally I get a good few uses before I had to change the blade but these lasted no time at all. It doesn't help that every time you rinse, half the moisture bar decides to disintegrate. I think I would buy these again if they were on special offer, but otherwise i'll be sticking to the old ones. The difference after use wasn't noticeable and I still had to apply loads of body butter.
Have you tried this razor?
